The state government has decided to rid 12 tourist and pilgrim towns of load shedding this summer. These destinations have been favoured because they have recorded a minimal distribution loss of about 15%, but at the same time, Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited ( MAHADISCOM) has decided to impose load shedding of 2- 3 hours on those towns which have greater distribution loss.

In a significant move which will benefit Mumbaikars, the State Government has decided to crack down on milk adulteration. Tankers bringing milk to the city will be tested at entry points for adulteration and if it tests positive, the entire stock will be destroyed.

The tapping is aimed at generating an additional 1,185 million units of electricity every year and will ensure that the fourth stage of the Koyna project continues to operate uninterrupted.

This will also help to supply water to drought- hit areas of Satara. The State aims to be free of power outages by the end of 2012.

In what is being seen as a cheap tactic by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority ( MMRDA) of having a dry run of the monorail despite opposition from the BJP, the authority has said that it was just an internal process of the electrical testing that was undertaken for the monorail since the last three weeks. They have also denied of having any dry run and said it would done later. " We didn't took the monorail out on the tracks and we would do the dry run on a future date," said an MMRDA official requesting anonymity.

Feasibility study for the new suburban Virar- Vasai Road- Diva- Panvel line would soon begin in about a months time. Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation ( MRVC) would be carrying out the work under phase three of Mumbai Urban Transport Project ( MUTP). " The feasibility study would be in two parts - practical and financial. Study will also be conducted on the fast corridor on harbour line project. Both these projects collectively are estimated to cost about Rs 20,000 crores," said a MRVC official on condition of anonymity.
