JSW Steel may get the final go ahead from West Bengal government for its proposed greenfield integrated steel project at Salboni in West Bengal, in a week's time.

Land clearance

JSW Steel today claimed that the final hurdle before its Salboni project in West Bengal appears to be over as the State Government had agreed to regularise the possession of 297 acres, directly purchased from the farmers.

The company plans to build a three-million-tonne steel plant and a 300-MW captive power plant at Salboni.

JSW was holding the land – dispersed across the proposed project area of 4,334 acres — in small plots without due notification under section 14Y of the Land Reforms Act, 1955. The notification is required for holding over 24 acres in rural areas.

JSW Steel today expressed hopes of achieving financial closure and start construction of the Rs 35,000-crore integrated steel plant at Salboni in West Bengal soon after the festive season in October.

In the initial phase, the company plans to build a three-million-tonne steel plan coupled with 300-MW captive power plant.

BHUBANESWAR: Even as the State Government welcomed the conditional clearance of the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) to the proposed greenfield steel project of Posco near Paradip, the BJP and the CPI said that they would continue to oppose the project.
