An experiment was conducted to study the phosphate adsorption-desorption behaviour of some paddy growing soils of Anantnag district of Kashmir. Representative soil samples (0-15 cm) were collected from thirteen locations of district under paddy.

Despite slight improvement in the weather conditions, snow-hit areas across Jammu and Kashmir continued to reel under severe power crisis for the third straight day today, with Internet and mobile phone connectivity remaining disrupted in Kashmir valley and upper reaches of Jammu region. People also struggled to get other essential services, like water supply, cooking gas and eatables as icy conditions made their life miserable, especially in the Valley and upper reaches of Jammu region.

But the decades long illegal extraction of sand and boulders from it is not only polluting its waters but damaging the trout culture also.

Three hundred and eighty three people have lost their lives across the state due to floods since 2009 till date.
The major loss of life has taken place in Ladakh region followed by Jammu and the Kashmir. In Ladakh
259 people have died due to floods, 257 people from Leh while two from Kargil.

Paper-II on Census 2011 released

SRINAGAR: As a large number of people have migrated to the urban areas during past three decades in Jammu and Kashmir, there has been sharp decline of 7 percent in rural population, according to the recently released census data.

Srinagar: Even as a majority of the population of Jammu and Kashmir resides in villages, there is an increasing trend of urbanisation in the state, according to Census- 2011. The Director, Census Operations, Farooq Ahmad Factoo, released the details of the urban-rural population of the state here today.

As per the data, the urban population has increased from 24.81 per cent in 2001 to 27.21 per cent in 2011. The total rural population of the state is 91.34 lakh and the urban population stands at 34.14 lakh. The population of the state is 1.25 crore.

JAMMU, Mar 10: While nearly 14,359 hectare of Forest land has been grabbed in the State in last over two decades, the districts of Jammu, Rajouri, Poonch in Jammu and Anantnag in Kashmir have topped in the list of Government land grabbing.
