The Speaker of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly on Wednesday directed the State Government to take action against a mining inspector for his alleged negligence following the Opposition Congress’ allegations that the BJP-led Government was protecting illegal miners. The matter of illegal mining at Susandra inter-State barrier in Betul district had been raised by Congress’ Sukhdev Panse during the Question Hour on Wednesday.

The Opposition Congress in Madhya Pradesh accused the BJP-led State Government of safeguarding the interests of those engaged in illegal mining.

The Centre has approved six national highway projects measuring about 500 km for Madhya Pradesh after Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s letter to Union Road Transport and Highways (RTH) Minister CP Joshi and Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee last year. The total project cost of these projects, to be awarded under public-private partnership (PPP) mode, is over Rs 2,917 crore. Two projects have been approved by the Finance Minister while the other four by the RTH Minister. Besides these, the Centre has also cleared four projects for Rajasthan, the home State of the RTH Minister.

Degraded bamboo forests in 7,800 hectare area were upgraded by 789 beneficiary families during the year 2011 under land erosion prevention project being implemented in the State with the cooperation of United Nations Development Programme. This project is being implemented in Betul, Chhindwara, Sidhi, Singrauli and Umaria districts of the State.

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) with the joint effort of Forest Department has installed a carbon measurement centre at Sukwan beat of Tawadi forest division in Betul district. Testing of various sensors has also been started from the tower of this centre.

The Integrated Land and Ecosystem Management Project is being implemented by the Forest Department in Madhya Pradesh with the cooperation of Global Environmental Facility. The project is being implemented in nine forest divisions of Betul, Chhindwara, Umaria, Sidhi and Singrauli districts.

Notification for the constitution of Satpura Tiger Reserve buffer zone has been issued today. The notification has been issued after the recommendations of committee of experts and discussions with all Gram Sabha (villages).

There are 55 Gram Sabha (villages) under the buffer zone.

The Madhya Pradesh government has imported 50,000 metric tonnes of coal from Indonesia to deal with its shortage which is affecting power generation in the state, official sources said.
"The imported coal has reached a port in Gujarat and will reach the state shortly," Madhya Pradesh Power Generating Company Limited (MPPGCL) Chairman cum Managing Director (CMD) RB Agarwal said.
