The Cardamom Research Station at Pampadumpara is taking measures to reduce the use of chemical pesticides in cardamom plantations and promote eco-friendly methods with a view to protecting the soil. Scientists have noticed that unscientific spraying of pesticides had resulted in low production and high level of plants decay, said Kuriakose K.P., head of the cardamom station.

Demand for effective bio-pesticides rising across the globe

Young research scholars and the scientists working on the synthesis of bio-pesticides that play a pivotal role in controlling the pests without polluting environment should make use of the funds available with the Union Government's Department of Science and Technology (DST) for their research, G.J. Samathanam, Head, Technology Development and Transfer, DST, Government of India, has said.

The crop protection industry has joined hands with Crop Life India, an association of technology-driven agriculture companies, to form an Anti-Counterfeiting Task Force in a bid to check the rampant growth ‘bio-products' laced with chemical insecticides. The major crop protection companies that have joined hands with Crop Life in the initiative include Rallies India, Bayer CropScience, BASF, Indofil Industries and Excel Crop Care.
