Changes in traffic flow at Chirag Dilli, Siri Fort intersections

The flow of traffic between Ambedkar Nagar and Moolchand along the Capital's much talked about Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor will revert to the original lane system from Wednesday. The Delhi Integrated Multi-modal Transit System Limited (DIMTS), which operates the corridor, said on Tuesday that following the end of the trial runs by Central Road Research Institute on the instructions of the Delhi High Court, the corridor was handed back to it on Saturday.

New Delhi: The BRT corridor is back with the Delhi integrated multi-modal transit system. However, DIMTS officials said signal cycles would go back to the original format only after the rest of the bus rapid transit corridor is restored to the previous state. While officially there is no word on the date, sources said the dedicated bus lane should be back within a week.

Inter State Truck Terminus also in pipeline

SHILLONG: In a move which could slightly ease the traffic congestion in the city, the Planning Commission “in principle” has approved the much awaited Inter State Bus Terminus (ISBT). Informing this here recently, Transport Minister AT Mondal said that following the approval, the State Government has started the process of land acquisition to make the project a reality.

The real grit of the Delhi Traffic Police and other agencies monitoring the experimental run for mixed vehicular usage on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Corridor will be put to test on Monday, the first working day post the commencement of the pilot study. Overwhelmed with the postive response received from the first day of the trial run (from Khanpur T point to Siri Fort), the expert body, Central Road Research Institute (CRRI) conducting the survey feels that there would be no major hassles in traffic flow on Monday, which normally sees an increase of 30 per cent in traffic volume.

A model bus terminal planned in Kalasipalyam

The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) will soon introduce a bus with a passenger capacity of 110, Transport minister R Ashoka said on Thursday. The new bus will be 14.5 mt in length as opposed to the existing city buses which are 12 mt in length. The new bus would hit the road within a month and the idea is to provide more space for passengers, Ashoka said.

60 new buses connecting metro stations every 15 minutes

Commuters in the satellite towns of Gurgaon and Faridabad have reason to rejoice with the Haryana Roadways agreeing to introduce feeder buses connecting these towns to major metro railway stations in the Capital. The service has become operational with close to 60 buses plying on routes connecting metro stations such as Badarpur, Tughlakabad, AIIMS, Kashmere Gate and HUDA City Centre every 15 minutes.

The Asian Development Bank has started work on the feasibility study of the Rapid Bus Transit for Islamabad to examine whether the project would be feasible technically or financially.

"A four-member team of the ADB has reached Islamabad and launched work on the feasibility study," said a senior official of the Capital Development Authority (CDA).

He said the feasibility study would be completed by September this year, which would follow the launch of the bus service.

The state government on Tuesday told the Bombay High Court that close to 6,500 autorickshaws in the city have been fitted with electronic meters following a notification issued in February.

The statement was made in a compliance report filed before the court by joint transport commissioner Satish Sahasrabudhhe. The report states that 2,598 new autorickshaws have been fitted with e-meters. The figure for vehicles which have come forward for renewal of fitness certificates is 3,839.

Chennai to get 250, including 100 mini-buses, says Transport Minister

Three thousand new buses will be introduced this year at a cost of Rs.548 crore for the State, and the city will get 250 buses, including 100 mini-buses, Transport Minister V. Senthil Balaji informed the Assembly on Tuesday The mini-buses will act as a transit transport facility between the residential locality of the commuter and bus stops/train stations.

SRINAGAR: In order to streamline ever-increasing vehicular movement in summer capital, Minister of State for Home, Nasir Aslam Wani, today directed Traffic Department, SMC and SDA to immediately operationalize 56 bus bays and 6 parking lots which have been identified at different spots.

The R&B Department is constructing 15 out of the 56 identified bus- bays in Srinagar city. The rest will be constructed by SMC and 35 of these will be ready by June this year.
