In a significant softening of stance over the ‘go’ and ‘no-go’ mining policy, the environment ministry has agreed to discuss coal projects on a case-by-case basis. The move indicates some headway towards resolving the deadlock since February.

Hazaribagh, Aug. 5: Hundreds of villagers of Keredari and Barkagaon today sowed paddy, not in their fields but on the huge potholes dotting the 14km road connecting the two blocks.

Tired of pleading with the authorities to mend the dilapidated stretch without any result, the villagers, led by JVM leader Baleshwar Kumar, today adopted an innovative form of protest to make their voices heard.

Demanding immediate repairs, they gathered on the road around 11am and sowed paddy on the huge craters, which have turned into mud puddles.

Ranchi, July 31: A reservoir project, which was proposed to provide water to National Thermal Power Corporation’s (NTPC) thermal power plant in Chatra district, has been lying abandoned for two years.

The Garhi reservoir scheme at Uttararhi village in Chatra’s Kamdara block was primarily aimed at providing water to NTPC’s 1,980MW plant. Besides, a hydel power plant had been proposed at the project site to boost power supply for people in the region.

Ranchi, July 30: Jharkhand has embarked on a mammoth project to rejuvenate five dams and reservoirs that act as prime water sources for capital Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Hazaribagh and Chatra, a move that will also help the state tap central funds.

RANCHI, 3 MAY: National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) today said, the company was in search of an alternative site in Jharkhand to relocate the proposed 1,980 MW capacity super thermal power project that was to come up near Tandwa in the Chatra district.
