For combating the menace of child labour, Punjab Labour and Human Resource Department has approved a 5-year project 'Combating worst form of child labour'; it is being implemented in four districts of the province (Jhang, Layyah, Jehlum and Chakwal). Punjab Labour and Human Resource Secretary Hassan Iqbal disclosed this during a meeting with the District Co-ordination Officers (DCOs) of the respective districts here on Tuesday, disclosed an official.
He said the Punjab government is focused and committed to eradicate the child labour from the province.

Bhubaneswar: School and mass education minister Pratap Jena on Tuesday said that special strategies and plan of action were being taken up to implement the Right to Education Campaign-2012 and it was decided to finalise the District Plan for the RTE campaign by June 5. Briefing newsmen here, Jena said that core committees would be formed in all district project offices and the first meeting as to how to carry out the campaign to create awareness to mobilise students to schools would be held by June 5 and by this time.

Berhampur: A probe has been ordered into the allegation that child labourers were being engaged in executing works of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) in Ganjam district. District Level Monitoring Committee will inquire into the allegation of child labour engaged in the MGNREGS work, district collector Krishan Kumar said here on Tuesday.

Taking cognizance of various news and complaint received on the alarming issue of child labour in coalmines of Meghalaya in general and Jaintia Hills in particular, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights deputed a team to visit Meghalaya from 16 - 19 October 2011. The objective was to discuss and review the child labour situation in Jaintia Hills district with all the stakeholders and investigate into a case of alleged abuse meted on the children of Meghalaya Hindu Mission Orphanage, as formally complained by one Shillong-based NGO.

NEW DELHI: The state government may be trying to project Delhi as a world-class city, but the findings by "India's Child Rights Index", a first-of-its-kind report released on Wednesday, paint a different picture. The city ranks 12 in the country when it comes to ensuring well-being of children - assessed using 10 major indicators, including sex ratio, early childhood care, education, health and crime against children. Delhi's lead in providing education to children is offset by its poor pupil-teacher ratio of 1:100.
