GUWAHATI: The Assam Government has announced a special scheme of Rs 10 crore for the development of inland water service and road communication in Dhubri district which recently witnessed one of the worst ferry mishaps in the State.

State Forest Minister Rockybul Hussain, while addressing a press conference here on Sunday, said that Rs 10 crore scheme was part of the Chief Minister’s special programme. “Under the special scheme, ferry services, road communication, ghats and a dispensary in Dhubri district will be developed,” he said.

Dhubri, March 21: The North East Craft and Rural Development Organisation, an NGO, has been demanding an alternative road along the Mora Gadadhar river which flows on the northern side of the town. The main connecting road from Bepari Patty More of Gauripur (on NH 31) to Dhubri town was constructed on railway land by the PWD (road) six decades back.

The PWD no longer maintains the road since construction was taken up by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) a few years back.

Dhubri, March 11: An anti-dam seminar was organised today by Sodou Asom Unnayan Parishad at Gouripur Library Auditorium to air its grievances against the construction of Subansiri dam. The general secretary of the organisation, Amar Rajkhowa, addressed the meeting as appointed speaker. He came down heavily on Dispur and Delhi for their unbending attitude on the dam issue which, of late, has led to protests all over the state.

India has declared itself free from bird flu (Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza). The declaration was made here on December 29, 2011, and notified to the OIE (Office International des Epizooties, which later became the World Organisation for Animal Health). However, states have been advised to keep up the vigil, according to the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying.

"The declaration was made here on December 29, 2011, and notified to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE)," an official statement said.

Guwahati: Over 15000 birds were culled in Assam’s Dhubri district following the detection of avian influenza in Agomoni area of the district.

Rapid Response Teams had culled the birds in 14 villages of Agomoni area after the avian flu virus was confirmed about a fortnight back, state Animal Husbandry and Veterinary department sources said here.
