A bottom-up view of the health conditions and services in six states – three performing and three not-so-well performing ones – was arrived at through a study by a multidisciplinary team with varied experiences in health research. This paper presents the results of a Public Report on Health that was initiated in 2005 to understand public health issues for people from diverse backgrounds living in different region-specific contexts.

The amended draft of the Dehradun Master Plan is replete with the mistakes which were expected to be corrected. With pressure mounting on the government to grant “limited” relaxations for new constructions in Shimla’s green belt — where construction work was banned in 2000 — Himachal Pradesh government may waive off certain restrictions for the residents affected by the ban. At least six dozen plot holders, who could not take up construction work in the banned areas, may get relaxations as the cabinet is expected to deliberate on the draft Shimla Development Plan on February 29.

KOCHI: The attempt of the Kochi Corporation to set up a bio-gas plants for decentralised treatment of biodegradable waste has failed to yield results despite spending Rs 61.61 lakh. This was owing to the lack of proper monitoring and timely remedial action.

The Bombay High Court on Tuesday restrained the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) from taking any coercive steps against five telecom companies. The companies have not paid the corporation the premium amount demanded by the civic body for regularizing cell towers put by the companies on roof tops of private buildings.

After a delay of six years, the state government at last approved the development plan (DP) of 23 villages merged in the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), but the decision on the controversial proposal of biodiversity park (BDP) on 2,416 acres would be taken after two months by choosing one of the options of allowing some construction or giving transfer of development rights (TDR) for land acquisition.

More than four years ago, the Capital’s biggest land-owning agency, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), enforced a policy document called the Master Plan Delhi 2021 (MPD) to rapidly upgrade the city’s infrastructure.
The policy, which was to regulate Delhi’s infrastructure development between 2001 and 2021, was notified seven years late, in 2007.

The city’s development road map, the Delhi Master Plan 2021, is disconnected from ground realities and it will be revised next year, Urban Development Minister Kamal Nath said on Thursday. The process of revising the document has already begun to make it more accommodating, Nath said, promising the changes will save several residential and commercial areas that currently face demolition.
