Punjab government is now rushing to launch Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal’s pet project—Medicity at Mullanpur—before the electoral code of conduct is put into place. Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA), which is also entrusted with land acquisition for the project, is in the final stages of wrapping up the process. Sources reveal land acquisition for Medicity will take about 15 days more, after which the state will formally launch the prime medicare hub.

The environment master plan (EMP), being prepared by the government to secure a $ 2 million development policy loan from the World Bank, will address issues pertaining to 18 major sectors, virtually covering the whole gamut of development activities, to lay down the road map for sustainable growth of the ecologically fragile hill state.

KALPETTA: The eco-tourism centre at Tholpetty near Mananthavady, a growing tourism destination under the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, will be reopened for tourists on Wednesday.

The centre had been closed for tourists since June 7, 2010 on an order of the Chief Wildlife Warden.

But, the fact is that this town, which shot into limelight when the Congress celebrated 75 years of the Dandi March in 2005 by re-staging it from Ahmedabad to Dandi, still needs a facelift.

With an aim to rejuvenate Gandhian principles and values and to immortalise the historical salt march undertaken by the Mahatma in March-April 1930, the UPA government has launched a unique Rs 25-crore green project for Dandi and the surrounding villages to transform the area into an eco-friendly tourist destination.
