State gives nod to two more power projects

LUCKNOW: Aware of the ever-escalating power crisis in the state, the energy task force (ETF) headed by chief secretary Atul Kumar Gupta has given its nod to set up two more thermal power stations in the state.

A World Bank-aided project on sodic land reclamation in Uttar Pradesh is being executed by U.P. Bhumi Sudhar Nigam, Lucknow, and Remote Sensing Applications Centre, U.P., Lucknow has the responsibility of sodic land mapping for the execution of land reclamation programme at the cadastral level.

High-velocity thunderstorm kills 89 people in U.P.

Eighty-nine people were killed in the high-velocity thunderstorm that ripped across Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday. The deaths came as winds blew at 80 km an hour uprooting trees and triggering wall collapse and lightning ignited fires. The thunderstorm caused a blackout in several parts of the State as power lines snapped. Trains services were also affected. Power, rail services restored
