This report highlights a problem currently being experienced by new Euro IV and V heavy-duty trucks and buses: Despite meeting more stringent regulatory standards for exhaust emissions during type approval, many vehicles equipped with selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems have significantly elevated emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx) during in-use driving, particularly when operating in urban traffic. In some cases, actual in-use urban emission levels may be as high as or higher than those from much older vehicles with engines certified to more lenient emission standards.

The public sector oil companies in the country are aware of their social responsibilities and are taking all steps to adopt eco-friendly production technologies and keep pollution to the minimum, according to Mr S. Jaipal Reddy, the Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas.

He was speaking at the Visakha refinery of HPCL here on Monday after inaugurating the clean fuel project, meant to produce petroleum to Euro-3 and Euro-4 specifications.

Will Ply Between Gandhinagar, Chandkheda

The double decker bus to be introduced in Gandhinagar will have a seating capacity of 75 and will run on Euro-IV diesel engine which costs Rs 38 lakh. “This is environmentally safe and has less emission,” claims Dhodhiya.

NEW DELHI: Environment-friendly Euro-IV quality petrol and diesel will be sold in seven more cities by March 31, government and industry officials said.
The seven cities where fuel of Euro-III specifications will be phased out are: Puducherry, Mathura, Vapi, Jamnagar, Ankaleshwar, Hissar and Bharatpur.
The oil ministry has also directed state-run Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum to phase-out sale of Euro-III petrol and diesel in their pumps in 50 cities by 2015, officials said.

Lanka IOC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Indian Oil Corporation, will introduce for the first time in the Sri Lankan market, Euro III grade petrol in about a fortnight.

Lanka IOC and Ceylon Petroleum Corporation have a duopoly on retail petrol and diesel sale in Sri Lanka.

Jaipur: Rajasthan High Court on Thursday sought explanation from the state government as to why diesel vehicles were allowed to operate in Ranthambore National Park (RNP) despite court orders banning them.

In a move that will give the better and cleanear environment agenda a boost, the reach of Euro-IV fuel (diesel and petrol) will be expanded to seven more cities in the current financial year. This less polluting fuel was launched about a year ago in 13 cities.

Despite the increasing pollution levels, the city is yet to implement the Euro IV fuel deadline that was set for October last year. Petrol bunks in the city have not received the fuels conforming to Euro IV till date and most of them are unaware of the existence of such standards.

The Private Bus Owners Association of Sri Lanka yesterday vowed that that they would campaign against the Vehicle Emission Testing Programme (VET)unless the Petroleum Ministry took steps to produce diesel with low Sulphur levels.

The VET programme was jointly implemented by the Environment and Natural Resources and Transport Ministry in 2007 to reduce dangerous gases that cause air pollution.

CSE strongly supports the bold decision of the Delhi government to increase the tax on diesel-run vehicles by 25 per cent at the time of registration, appreciates waiving off the VAT on bicycles, and calls for other states to follow the capital city's example.
