Among the top 21 mega cities of the world, according to the report, Dhaka ranks 9th position with 14.3 million people, while Tokyo 1st with 36.5 million, Delhi 2nd with 21.7 million, Sao Paolo 3rd with 20.0 million.

Rescuers glided through several city neighborhoods in fishing boats and canoes on Tuesday, searching water-logged houses for trapped residents and abandoned belongings, after heavy rains flooded Georgia and other parts of the Southeast. The deluge left eight people dead, dozens stranded and thousands without electricity.

An earthquake measuring up to 6.2 in magnitude struck mountainous northwestern Georgia on Tuesday but caused no casualties or major damage.

Estimates of the magnitude of the quake, which struck in the early morning hours, ranged from 5.5 to 6.2.

"There were no casualties or destruction, just cracks on the walls of some houses," Emergency Services head Irakly Kadagidze told Reuters.

BP resumed exports of Azerbaijani natural gas through a pipeline across Georgia to Turkey yesterday. But the company's oil pipeline to the Georgian Black Sea port of Supsa remained out of action.

Both pipelines were closed by the British energy group on Tuesday amid concerns about security.

"BP began filling the South Caucasus pipeline again today because we believe it is now safe enough to do so," said Toby Odone, a BP spokesman.
