Anantapur, May 11: Hundreds of unregistered granite and slab industries have been evading taxes in Tadipatri in Anantapur district for some years.

There are about 200 granite and 1,500 slab industries in Tadipatri, of which 61 are granite and 632 slab industries are unregistered. But these industries are operating by flouting norms with officials support.

The environmental committee of the Sasthra Sahitya Parishad district committee has demanded the government to curb the increasing number of brick making units and unscientific granite mining in the district.

The Andhra Pradesh Government today announced a six-member high powered committee to inquire into the granite mishap at Chimakurthi in Prakasham district of the State which resulted in the death of about 14 workmen.
