Record growth over the last year pushed the UK green goods and services market past the £122bn mark, according to new government figures that reveal the low carbon economy now employs almost one million people.

The sector grew 4.7 per cent against the 2009/10 figure of £116.8bn, providing an additional £5.4bn of economic activity as green industries continued to defy the sluggish progress made by the rest of the economy.

The present investigation entitled ‘Chemical contamination of water due to household laundry detergents was conducted to study the chemical contribution of laundry detergents to waste water. Six most commonly used laundry detergents, 4 powder and 2 liquid detergents were selected to study the chemical input of each to waste water stream from home laundry. Chemical analysis of wash water and detergent solution was done to analyse pH, total dissolved solids (TDS), chloride, sulphate, carbonate and bicarbonate alkalinity.

MUMBAI: The civic body has proposed an environment protection agency, in a move that could change the way environment in the city is protected. The proposal, prepared by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's ( BMC) environment department, will be sent to the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board, under whose aegis it functions.

By October 2011, India is expected to have a National Manufacturing Policy which will aspire to create 100 million additional jobs in the next 10 years. This aim will be achieved by increasing the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) share of the manufacturing sector from the current level of 16% to 25% by 2025. The country will need to ensure that the environmental impact and effects arising from this increase in manufacturing activities is addressed and controlled without affecting increased industrial growth.
