ITANAGAR, May 2 – Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki has said that there is an initiative to create a ‘Special Tiger Protection Force’ for enhancing the protective cover on the wild cats and other animals inhabiting in the Tiger Reserves in the State. “The Force will see to it that no harm is caused to tigers and other animals in the Tiger Reserves in the State,” Tuki said while addressing a two-day orientation programme on ‘Strengthening Wildlife Law Enforcement and Conservation’ here yesterday.

ITANAGAR, April 12 – Arunachal Pradesh government is giving special thrust to creating gainful employment opportunities for youths, especially in tea and rubber plantation schemes. Chief Minister Nabam Tuki, who convened a meeting here yesterday to create a separate Tea and Rubber Board, asked the departmental officials to expedite the process in order to facilitate the interested youths take up horticulture and cash crop farming.

He also urged the officials to prepare feasible plans and formulate it for execution in the current financial year, official source said here today.

ITANAGAR, April 12 – Arunachal Pradesh Finance, Planning & PWD Minister Chowa Mein has reviewed the physical progress of highway projects, including the ongoing ambitious Trans-Arunachal Highway in the State. The PMO has been constantly monitoring all flagship programmes of the UPA government.

ITANAGAR, March 14 – A forest fire has been raging in the Dariya Hills in Arunachal Pradesh for the last three days with black smoke bellowing into the sky of the State capital threatening the flora and fauna here. “It appears to be a daunting task to douse the fire in Dariya Hills, which comes under Itanagar Wildlife Sanctuary, as the State does not have required resources to tackle such massive bushfire going on for three days”, Forest department sources said.

ITANAGAR, Feb 12 – Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki has urged for taking up horticulture as a viable source for sustainable income generation in the State. Tuki who visited Mengio Circle in Papum Pare district yesterday, exhorted the youths in a rally to go for horticultural activities instead of looking for white collar jobs, official sources said here today. He highlighted the potential areas for growing cash crops like cardamom and various other horticultural produces.

ITANAGAR: Acute shortage of water in the source river has affected power generation capacity in Ranganadi Hydro-Electric Power Plant (RHEP), at Yazali in Lower Subansiri district of Arunachal Pradesh.

The lone power station of central sector in the state is operating partially for just five hours a day, an official communique said here today.

SILAPATHAR, Oct 17 – For the mega projects of Dhemaji and North Lakhimpur districts, boulders are being collected from the river beds of Likabali, Siji, Garo, Padi and Ego in West Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh for construction works. The people of West Siang feel that largescale collection of boulders from hilly areas is responsible for the devastation in the lower reaches of the river beds. The public expressed this before a joint team of Dhemaji district administration and journalists which visited West Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh for geographical study of the Gai river.

Even as there is a hue and cry over the pathetic condition of roads in the State capital caused by incessant rainfall this monsoon, the State Government today released Rs 17 crore non-plan grant for their repair and maintenance.

ITANAGAR  Following incessant rains and damage of several water supply pipelines across the capital, the Public Health Engineering and Water Supply department has expressed fear that the residents in the State capital might face severe drinking water crisis in the next few weeks.

SHILLONG: Seventeen towns and cities have been chosen as benificiaries under the Rajiv Awas Yojna. In pursuance of the Government’s vision of creating a slum-free India, a new scheme called ‘Rajiv Awas Yojana’(RAY) was launched on June 2 this year, which is expected to cover about 250 cities across the country by the end of the 12th Plan.
