Jaisalmer Tehsil Registers Highest Improvement In Child Sex Ratio

Jaipur: The provisional population figures up to the tehsil-level released by the directorate of census operations, Rajasthan, on Wednesday showed an overall decrease in the child population in the 0 to 6 years age group and a clear divide on the social issue between rural and urban areas.

JAIPUR: Another swine flu death was reported in the state on Sunday. An 18-year-old man, resident of Karauli district, died of the disease. A quack in Karauli district was responsible for his slowly bleeding to death.

This is the second consecutive swine flu death in the past two days.

The Mazdoor Kisan Shakti Sangthan (MKSS), led by social worker Aruna Roy, is preparing itself to undertake a social audit of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) in Ajmer district, the Sarpanch Sangh has decided to oppose the entry of MKSS members in villages.

The Rajasthan Government on Thursday declared 2,381 villages in 10 districts as scarcity-hit following extensive damage to rabi crops caused by frost and cold wave earlier this year. The maximum number of 1,722 such villages are in Jaipur, followed by 249 in Sriganganagar, 178 in Jhalawar, 103 in Tonk, 43 in Nagaur, 29 in Jodhpur, 25 in Sawai Madhopur, 14 in Bikaner, 13 in Sikar and five in Jaisalmer.

An exhaustive social audit of the much talked about National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) in Jhalawar district of Rajasthan has revealed large-scale fraud in material supplies, extortion of money for job cards, dead people registered on muster rolls, and lack of transparency in the execution of works. However, the implementation of the NREG Act has led to an impressive employment generation in Manohar Thana tehsil of the district, according to a parallel survey undertaken by a research team from the G. B. Pant Social Science Institute, Allahabad.
