Most of the elephant migratory corridors in the State are under threat, experts have found, even as the High Court’s June deadline for the government to submit a report on man-elephant conflict in Hassan and Kodagu is fast approaching.

The mandatory installation of solar water heater as a precondition to obtain power connection has been resented by people in Kodagu. The main reason being the non-feasibility of such a condition due to the climatic condition in the district.

The High Court of Karnataka on Wednesday refused to grant permission for the proposed translocation of 25 elephants from Alur forest range to Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary.

During the hearing of a suo motu petition over increasing elephant deaths, the Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Vikramjit Sen and Justice A S Bopanna said permission for translocation cannot be granted unless experts’ opinion is obtained.

It protects intangible economic assets such as the quality and reputation of a product through market differentiation. It is considered a promising tool at the international level to maintain multifunctionality in rural landscapes and involve local populations in biodiversity management and conservation.

Bangalore: Rain woes continued on Friday also, with several parts of the State receiving heavy rainfall.  Four persons lost their lives - two in Belgaum and one each in Udupi and Kodagu districts. As many as 13 houses have partially collapsed in Haveri district, while several roads are inundated in Belgaum district.

 

Union Minister of State for Power K C Venugopal has urged Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa to clear the roadblock in Kodagu, which has stagnated works on the 440-KV power transmission line between Kozhikode in Kerala to Mysore.

Addressing reporters after his meeting with Yeddyurappa in the City on Thursday, Venugopal said that the project, which is being implemented by the Power Grid Corporation
