City District Government Lahore (CDGL) has taken all necessary steps for eradication of dengue and town administrations have been directed for the implementation of dengue regulations.According to a CDGL's spokesperson, notices are being issued to tyre shops and sprays are being done in tyre storehouses. DCO Lahore Ahad Khan Cheema had also directed the concerned town officers to take strict action against tyre shops owners for violating the dengue regulations. He said that the work is in process at union council level.

The green bench of the Lahore High Court directed Environment Protection Department and Water and Sanitation Agency to submit revised list of all the industries causing water pollution in the River Ravi by June 1.

Earlier Additional Secretary Environment submitted a list of industries mentioning 283 factories causing water pollution, while Wasa Director mentioned 520 factories in his report.

At this the court asked for revised and complete report having details of all the factories.

The Lahore High Court on Monday issued notices to the Punjab government for May 24 on a petition pleading to declare that oral polio vaccine (OPV) was not properly provided to children, according to international standards and directions for a judicial inquiry against responsible authorities.

A moderate earthquake of 3.3 magnitude shook Lahore and its surrounding areas, a private news channel reported on Friday.

According to the Meteorological Department, the earthquake jolted Shahdara and other areas as well. The epicenter of the quake was in India, 125 kilometres away from Lahore.

The Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR), in its quarterly report, has revealed that arsenic was present in seven brands of bottled water, which could cause cancer (of lungs, bladder, skin, prostrate, kidney, nose and liver), diabetes, kidney diseases, hypertension, heart diseases, birth defects and black-foot disease.

Besides this, sodium was present in five brands of bottled water, potassium in one and bacteriological contamination in three brands of bottled water.

IUCN Pakistan programme in collaboration with UNDP Environment Facility, National Energy Conservation Centre (ENERCON) Ministry of Water and Power, Government of Sindh’sTransport Department, Government of Punjab’s Urban Unit, Planning & Development Division launched the Pakistan Sustainable Transport Programme (PAKSTRAN) with a two-day workshop in Islamabad. New Delhi After fuel, India is offering to export natural gas to Pakistan to help it tide over a gas crisis.

State-owned GAIL’s just-commissioned natural gas pipeline from the West coast to Bhatinda in Punjab is barely 25 km away from the Pakistan border and the gas utility is proposing that the line can be extended to Lahore in no time, sources with knowledge of the development said.

Pakistan and India are to begin technical talks for installing the joint electricity transmission system between Amritsar and Dina Nath, Lahore. A delegation from New Delhi will be visiting Islamabad and hold talks on April 1, a senior official told Pakistan Observer. The electricity transmission infrastructure is vital to import electricity of 500 MW from India and the said infrastructure will also be used to export electricity The Indian side has proposed date of April 1, which is not yet finalized and may be changed.
