India has declared itself free from bird flu (Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza). The declaration was made here on December 29, 2011, and notified to the OIE (Office International des Epizooties, which later became the World Organisation for Animal Health). However, states have been advised to keep up the vigil, according to the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying.

KRISHNAGAR, 22 SEPT: As culling operations continue in the blocks of Tehatta in Nadia affected by Bird Flu, experts have said that killing birds in poultry farms will not alone solve the spread of the H5N1 virus.

Calcutta, Aug. 7: The hospital chain run by cardiac surgeon Devi Shetty has submitted a detailed proposal to the Mamata Banerjee government for the development of crucial infrastructure now missing in rural hospitals.
