NALBARI: Keeping in view the malarial deaths that occur in large number during the rainy season, NRHM Nalbari has taken up several innovative measures to make the masses aware about malaria and other vector borne diseases. In order to spread awareness among the villagers, NRHM Nalbari has decided to hold meetings at different villages of the district clubbed with folk media performances, stated a release.

Driven by the belief that self-help is the best help, the villagers have themselves developed irrigation facilities through diversion of natural streams and canals, thereby transforming their lives by means of creating livelihood opportunities.

CHAMATA: At the very time when several regional organizations of Assam demonstrated to seek a halt on mega dam construction in the lower Subansiri basin, the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) is on the way to of constructing two electric towers in Pagladiya River here in order to produce current. Constructions of both of the two towers are about to start in Hanapara village under Nalbari district parts of the Pagladiya River.

Encephalitis, which has assumed alarming proportions in different parts of Nalbari district has claimed seven lives within the last few days, an official source said.

The encephalitis victims of the district have been identified as Sultan Mamood (45) of Chaulkhowa; Gajen Deka (55) of Diruah under Mukalmua Public Health Centre, Mritunjoy Deka (11) of Amayapur, Bhanita Das (21) of Sonpur, Mukuta Ali (55) Janopar under Nalbari circle, Labanya Haloi (40) of Piplibari and Nitumoni Barman (20) of Ponar Kaunia under Chamata Public Health Centre.

GUWAHATI, July 27 – The Census of India-2011 Provisional Population Totals (Rural-Urban Distribution Assam) which was released on Monday has recorded a decadal urbanisation growth of 27.61, which is much lower than the corresponding figure of 38.24 per cent of the previous decade.

 

The urban population of Assam now stands at 43,88,756 and accounts for a percentage of 14.08 of its total population. This share was 12.90 per cent in the previous decade.
