Jamshedpur, Dec. 25: Congress MP and corporate honcho Naveen Jindal has hailed the state’s rehabilitation and resettlement policy (R&R policy), welcoming the emphasis on employing the displaced even as he put the onus on companies to resolve crises over land acquisition. The chairman-cum-managing director of Jindal Steel Power Limited (JSPL), who arrived in the city yesterday on his chartered flight, said he approved of the state policy and its stress on providing job to one member of every displaced family and doling out money for 30 years.

The Supreme Court ban on iron ore mining in the Bellary district of Karnataka has hit more than half a dozen steel companies, including JSW Steel and Kalyani Steels manufacturing about 14 million tonne (mt) steel that produces 21 per cent of the country's iron ore.

Steel companies in the Bellary-Hospet region account for about 25 per cent of India’s domestic steel production of 63 mt and have been forced to explore the option of sourcing from other states.

NEW DELHI: The Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) of the Ministry of Environment and Forest (MoEF) has given environment clearance for the expansion of Jindal Power's thermal power plant at Raigarh district in Chhattisgarh. Under the project, Jindal Power, a subsidiary of Jindal Steel & Power Limited (JSPL), will add 2,400 MW (four 600 MW coal-based units).

The Wildlife Society of Orissa, a member organisation of the National Board of Wild Life (NBWL), has written to the Ministry of Environment and Forest (MoEF) for withdrawal of Stage-I forest clearance given to Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL) in Angul.
