Meant to be a showpiece of the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government’s pro-kisan image, wheat procurement has crumbled under the weight of its popularity.
Chasing a record of sorts amid the projection of a bumper yield, Madhya Pradesh ended up delaying procurement in the absence of enough gunny bags, leading to an agitation by farmers who were all the more nervous about the safety of their produce following unseasonal rains. It culminated in police firing in Bareli, Raisen, on Monday, leaving a farmer dead and many others injured.

Extreme biotic pressure has taken the man-animal conflict to alarming levels in the forested area stretching across Raisen, Hoshangabad and Sehore districts adjoining the state capital.

Over the last several months there have been a number of tiger sightings not only on the periphery of Bhopal but on a particular occasion recently a tiger was even sighted climbing the boundary wall of the National Judicial Academy at the southern tip of the state capital.

Bhopal : A study team of Laos and Vietnam have lauded the work organising self-help groups and connecting them with livelihood augmentation activities by taking rural communities in confidence in the villages of selected districts of Madhya Pradesh. The team held talks with women’s self-help groups during their visit to villages of Raisen and Rajgarh districts with a view to inspect activities being conducted under District Poverty Initiative Programme (DPIP).

Until recently, Bhopal was like any other Indian city — with little evidence of public transport and fast-growing private vehicle ownership, with its implications for high petrol consumption and air pollution. The scheme launched by Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan on May 27, 2007 from Raisen district has given several benefits to the girls in the state. This is why Ladli Laxmi Yojana is gaining tremendous popularity in Madhya Pradesh.

The State Government has Sanctioned Rs Five Crore for providing compensation to the farmers, whose crops have been damaged by frost and cold wave in Raisen district. The Relief Commissioner has released order in this connection.

The Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today inspected frost-affected crops at Bharkachchha and Gadarwas villages in Raisen district. Chouhan told the farmers not to worry. The State Government stands firmly with the farmers at this juncture.
The Chief Minister said that the officials have been instructed strictly to survey and assess crop loss promptly and liberally.

Implementation of the prestigious rural connectivity road scheme of the state government with construction of gravel roads in all 50 districts has begun. In the first phase of the scheme, construction process of 2700 roads has started. Under the scheme, 2676 roads with a length of 6118 km will be constructed. This will link more than 3200 villages which had so far no approach roads.

A 10-member study team of PAF Project from Nepal will visit Madhya Pradesh from July 6 to 12, 2010. The study team will inspect District Poverty Initiative Project works going in the state and hold discussions with self-help groups. The team will be divided into two and will visit Rajgarh and Guna and Shivpuri and Raisen districts respectively.
