Process on to give jobs to members of displaced families
Jammu: After a struggle of nearly two decades, there is some good news for the displaced families of Ranjit Sagar Dam which had been left out from the employment package offered by the dam authorities, which have now initiated the process to fulfil their commitment of providing jobs to them.

The Jammu and Kashmir government on Tuesday said the state would get its share of water from Punjab following a three decade-long dispute over it.

"For the first time in 30 years, the state would be getting its share of water from Punjab's Ranjit Sagar Dam," Minister for Public Health Engineering (PHE), Irrigation and Flood Control, Taj Moh-ud-Din, said while addressing a public rally in Doda district.

The state government has said it intended to buy back the Uri-I power project from the National Hydel Power Corporation (NHPC) for an estimated Rs 2,100 crore within two years.
“The government intends to buy back the Uri-I project, valued at Rs 2,100 crore, from the NHPC within two years, which is expected to generate an annual revenue of Rs 1,000 crore to Rs 1,500 crore for the state,” Public Health Engineering, Irrigation and Flood Control Minister Taj Mohiuddin said at a seminar here yesterday.

This will not only ensure uninterrupted supply of water for irrigation, but also adequate power.

Jaipur: The Rajasthan government may have been drawing a contingency plan to deal with its acute drinking water crisis, but it can do little to help the farmers get adequate water for irrigation.
