The joint front of Dwarka residents welfare associations — Dwarka Forum — has planned an extensive campaign to ensure 100% voter turnout in MCD polls in April.

The works committee of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) today gave approval to various schemes of Rs 100 crore. The chairman of the committee, Jagdish Mamgain, said the scheme includes permission for construction of roads and drains in 24 unauthorised colonies listed in 1,639 unauthorised colonies.
The colonies include Sai Baba enclave Najafgarh, Jal Vihar Ph-II Dichau village, Ugarshen Park, Neel Kanth enclave in Najafgarh, Mahender Enclave at Khaira road, Prem Nagar Z-Block at Paprawat road and extended Abadi Dhansa village.

Several Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) and activists have strongly criticised the Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit's recent statement on another power tariff hike in the Capital, terming it totally anti-people.

The festivities like Dussehra, Durga Puja and Divali will serve another purpose this year apart from celebrations as they will be used by the Resident Welfare Organizations (RWAs) to stage protests against the power tariff hike.

The main features of the festivals will include showcasing Durga killing the demons of DERC and discoms, fast running meters, blackouts, etc. These will be presented at the pooja pandals, most of which are set up in Chitranjan Park, Mayur Vihar and Dilshad Garden, said PK Roy, secretary, Federation of Chitranjan Park RWA.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has dismissed the plea for shifting of proposed solid waste treatment plant at Jhuriwala in Panchkula.

Resident Welfare Association of Sector 26 and Vijay Bansal, President of Shivalik Vikas Manch and INLD leader, requested relocating the proposed site for construction of solid waste management system far from residential areas as per the Municipal Solid Wastes (Management and Handling) Rules, 2000.

Fuelled by the Delhi government’s move to allow a CAG audit of power discoms, protests by the city’s Residents’ Welfare Associations (RWAs) against the hike in power tariff have been growing. On Sunday, the Delhi RWA Forum organised two meetings, in Jama Masjid area and Paschim Vihar. A day earlier, a ‘mahapanchayat’ of RWAs convened by the United Residents Joint Action held a meeting at Jantar Mantar.

According to Sanjay Kaul, chairperson of URJA, over 350 RWAs passed a unanimous resolution on Saturday on a set of issues that are sure to gain importance in the coming weeks.

Around 60 Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) across south Delhi and east Delhi have decided to force Delhi Electricity Regularity Commission (DERC) and Delhi government to roll back the recent 22 per cent hike in power tariff. They are not going to pay the increased charges in the coming billing cycle.
