Every possible effort is being undertaken to make the State self-reliant in power generation. Giving top priority to feeder separation and completion of new thermal power projects, important targets have been fixed to complete works within time-limit. A target has been fixed to start power generation in two extension units of 250 MW of Satpura thermal power plant at Sarni in August and November this year. Besides, a proposal is also under consideration to replace five old 62.5 MW units of Sarni plant with a new unit of 660 MW.

Bhopal : Power demand is at its lowest presently. Consumers in entire state are being supplied power 24-hours. Due to rainy season, all the reservoirs of hydel power plants have reached their highest levels. Old thermal power plants of the state as well as five power plants of the Central Sector have been shut down for annual maintenance. Some thermal power plants have also been closed due to reduction in power demand. There is no need of any repairs in these plants.

The demand for power has come down in the state with the arrival of rainy season. At present, the power demand stands at five thousand megawatts. One unit each of Amarkantak and Satpura have been closed down for annual maintenance in view of reduction in power demand.

To overcome the hurdles in power generation in the State due to coal shortage, the Madhya Pradesh Government has decided to import 8 lakh metric tonne of fossil fuel for its thermal power stations this fiscal year.

The Thermal Power Stations of Madhya Pradesh Power Generating Company Limited have added yet another feather in their caps with setting a new record of maximum generation of electricity in a day. Sanjay Gandhi Thermal Power Station, Birsinghpur has touched the highest mark with generating 302.03 lakh unit power on January 26.

Thermal Power Houses of Madhya Pradesh Power Generating Company had January 20 a special day for generating record power. Madhya Pradesh Power Generating Company Limited's Amarkantak Thermal Power House Chachai, Satpura Thermal Power Centre Sarni and Sanjay Gandhi Power House Birsinghpur generated maximum power on January 20.

A target has been set in Madhya Pradesh to supply 24-hour power to the rural areas by the year 2013. The state government has signed MoUs with 28 private companies for generation of 40 thousand megawatt power with a view to meeting this target.

Concerted efforts are being undertaken in Madhya Pradesh for increasing power generation. For this purpose, various schemes and projects are under construction in different phases due to which power generation in Madhya Pradesh will go up by 5,486 by the year 2013-14.

Due to monsoon rains in the state during the last two days, the power demand has come down to 5000 megawatts from 5800 megawatts. At present, 4200 megawatt power is available to meet the demand.

The Madhya Pradesh government has imported 50,000 metric tonnes of coal from Indonesia to deal with its shortage which is affecting power generation in the state, official sources said.
"The imported coal has reached a port in Gujarat and will reach the state shortly," Madhya Pradesh Power Generating Company Limited (MPPGCL) Chairman cum Managing Director (CMD) RB Agarwal said.
