A private non-conventional power producer has won the contract to set up a 60MW solar power plant in Tamil Nadu.

The Exim Bank today said it has signed an agreement for a 20-year €150 million loan from the European Investment Bank (EIB) to support projects that contribute to climate change mitigation.

The European Commission agreed to impose punitive import duties on solar panels from China in a move to guard against what it sees as dumping of cheap goods in Europe, prompting a cautious response from Beijing which called for further dialogue. EU commissioners backed EU trade chief Karel De Gucht’s proposal to levy the provisional duties by June 6 and make Chinese solar exports less attractive, two officials said.

The state government has initiated the privatization of power distribution network in 12 cities and awarded the contract for Bhagalpur and Muzaffarpur.
