A leading South Korean Company K-Water will invest in different hydal projects in Pakistan to generate around 3000MW electricity to help in resolving energy crisis. This was disclosed by Chairman Korean Water Resources Corporation known as K-Water Kim Kuen Ho while meeting with Prime Minister Gilani on Wednesday. Chairman Board of Investment Saleem Mandviwala was also present in the meeting. Prime Minister Gilani congratulated K-Water Chairman for forming consortium with other Korean companies for the implementation of various hydro projects in Pakistan.

The Korean government is establishing water supply systems in the villages of Phalia, Mandi Bahauddin with a grant of US$4 million.

Around 80,000 population of that area will be beneficiary of the project. Underground water of the region has been contaminated by the effluent of sugar mills in Phalia to cause health issues to the local population and huge damage to the environment conditions.

Japan will put a commercial satellite into space on Friday, officials said, in its first foray into the European-and-Russian-dominated world of contract launches.
The H-IIA rocket, which was developed by Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and has been launched 20 times since 2001, will carry a South Korean payload, a JAXA official said.
The satellite, the KOMPSAT-3, was developed by the Korea Aerospace Research Institute of South Korea to carry out earth observation, officials said.

The World Bank urged global governments Thursday to heed the environment when pursuing prosperity, rejecting what it called a myth that green growth is a luxury most countries cannot afford.

The bank in a report said political considerations, entrenched behaviour and a lack of appropriate financing systems are the chief obstacles to environmentally friendly development.

It urged governments to rethink their approach to growth, measuring not only what is being produced but what is being used up and polluted in the process.

South Korea's lawmakers approved a national emissions trading scheme on Wednesday to tackle its growing greenhouse gas emissions, overcoming strong industry opposition and joining a growing number of nations to put a price on carbon.

Of the 151 lawmakers who voted, 148 approved the scheme, underscoring bipartisan support for a cap on carbon emissions, in stark contrast with the United States and Australia where emissions trading has been deeply divisive.

Bhubaneswar: South Korean Ambassador to India Kim Joong-Keun on Wednesday said Seoul was waiting for New Delhi's proposal for setting up a nuclear energy station in India. "We in Korea were expecting it but because of the not very positive atmosphere around nuclear power and energy, we are waitiung for India's proposal in this regard," he said, while replying to a question here by reporters.

Major utilities such as Britain's Scottish Power and Norway's Statoil, manufacturers ranging from Siemens to Gamesa and supply chain companies are supporting a plan to develop the offshore wind potential of the North Sea, provisionally named Norstec.

North Korea said on Tuesday that it had completed preparations to launch a satellite into orbit, as South Korea and other Asian nations told their airlines and ships to change their routes to avoid the North Korean rocket.
