Suzlon Group said the installed wind capacity at Jaisalmer Wind Park in Rajasthan had crossed 1,000 MW.

The park comprises a cluster of wind farm sites within the Jaisalmer district, including Amarsagar, Badabaug, Baramsar, Tejuva and Soda Mada. It houses projects of some of Suzlon’s key customers such as Mytrah Energy, Hindustan Zinc, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation, Rajasthan State Mines & Minerals and Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation, the company said.

Started in August 2001, the Jaisalmer based facility crossed 1,000 Mw capacity to achieve this milestone

The Jaisalmer Wind Park being developed by the Suzlon Group has crossed 1,000 Mw of installed capacity and has reached 1,064 Mw (one gigawatt) on April 1. This makes the wind park, the largest of its kind in the country, Suzlon claimed in a filing with the Bombay Stock Exchange. The company initiated the development of the wind park in 2001. Suzlon said in the filing that its entire wind portfolio -- from the earliest 350 Kw model to the latest S9X - 2.1 Mw series -- has been used to create the park.

MUMBAI: The renewable energy ministry is planning to re-introduce incentives for the wind energy sector to allay fears that capacity addition could fall after the sops were withdrawn from April 1. The government rolled back two key incentives for the sector this year: accelerated depreciation and generation-based incentive. Industry players say the withdrawal of these sops will keep power producers at bay and could reduce annual capacity addition to less than 1,000 mw in 2012-13, against the target of 3,000 mw.

Creating a sustainable business is hard enough in the developed world. But in important emerging markets it can be more difficult still.

When Harish Hande set up India’s Solar Electric Light Company (Selco), in 1995 with the aim of providing cheap, clean solar energy to the nation’s rural poor, he quickly ran into a series of barriers.

Money was a big problem: India had few financial institutions willing to invest in renewable energy projects. He also needed to develop a method of distribution.
