Vijay Kumar from Nangal, who was being treated for swine flu at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital here, died today. This is the first such casualty in the state this year.

Dr Deepak Bhatia, nodal officer, Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme, said his relatives and friends who had tended him during sickness were being given "prophylactic treatment".

Sources said there was no cause for alarm as the authorities had enough stocks of medicine to treat swine flu cases.

A 23-year-old pregnant woman, who had tested positive for H1N1 virus, died at a state-run hospital here, health officials said on Friday. "The woman, who had come from Dhule, died at the the JJ Hospital," BMC's health officer Dr Anil Bandiwdekar told PTI. Last week, three people were tested positive for Swine Flu in Mumbai, bringing the total of swine flu or H1N1 patients in the city to 12.

With the number of A-H1N1 (swine flu) cases increasing steadily, the Union Government on Wednesday said there was no cause for panic as the situation was well under control and being monitored.

An official in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare denied reports in a section of the media that the virus has mutated and is not curable.

With swine flu cases being reported from various parts of the country, the Delhi government on Tuesday said hospitals in the capital were prepared to deal with the virus.

"Delhi hospitals are well prepared for swine flu. Hospitals have been earmarked for swine flu patients," said Delhi Health Minister Ashok Walia.

New Delhi: H1N1 influenza is back. With six cases confirmed in the capital, Delhi government has put all government hospitals on alert and directed them to follow the H1N1 protocol, including having an isolation ward with dedicated staff at select centres. Two of these cases were recently confirmed by the National Centre for Disease Control, senior health officials said. The vaccine makers are anticipating an increase in demand because nearly 281 patients have tested positive to the dreaded H1N1 virus and 21 people have lost their lives in the country over the past three months.

The flu is back and with a scare again. More than a year after H1N1 virus was seen to be behaving mildly, it is expected to bounce back in 2012 with the experts warning that it may act differently this year and the cases are likely increase.

Experts say that the “unusual” timing of the virus in 2012 is enough for the prediction. “The number of cases this year are already more as compared to last year. On top of that, the onset of monsoon will only make the virus conducive to grow.

A 65-year-old farmer from Tirupur is being treated for swine flu (H1N1) in the isolation ward of the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH).

Pommu Naiker of Nathakattupudur in Ward 19 of Tirupur Corporation was confirmed to be infected by the H1N1 virus at a private hospital in Coimbatore on Tuesday night. He was brought to the CMCH around 10 p.m. The test was done at a private laboratory.

In the last three months, one person died and 12 others were diagnosed with the A (H1N1) virus in the State, according to a release from the Department of Health and Family Welfare here on Monday.

The infection was found to have affected people in Chennai, Coimbatore and Tiruppur. The only death reported is that of a 72-year-old farmer who had succumbed to the infection due to old age and delay in seeking treatment.

Coimbatore: A 75-year-old farmer from Tamil Nadu’s Tirupur died of H1N1 virus infection, the first swine flu death in the state in two years. Another case was reported from PGI Chandigarh — a 21-year-old woman from Haryana’s Kurukshetra. This is the first confirmed swine flu case after more than a year in the region, including Punjab, Haryana and HP.
