It is critical to assess the effectiveness of the tools used to protect endangered species. The main tools enabled under the U.S. Endangered Species Act (ESA) to promote species recovery are funding, recovery plan development and critical habitat designation. Earlier studies sometimes found that statistically significant effects of these tools could be detected, but they have not answered the question of whether the effects were large enough to be biologically meaningful.

JAMMU: Keeping in pace with the technology and modern scientific wildlife management tools, the department of Wildlife Protection has introduced latest cameras to be installed in different wildlife sanctuaries in Jammu in order to conserve and protect the wild animals in a scientific method.

The Department has recently procured IR as well as flash Camera Traps for studying animal presence, conducting research in different wildlife sanctuaries and conserve the reserves including Nandini, Ramnagar, Sudhmahadev, etc.

There was very little focussed attention in designating specific wildlife rich areas as sanctuaries or national parks. India had about 80 sanctuaries notified across the country by the early 1960s, of which four were noted for the gigantic congregation of waterfowl during winter months. Tamil Nadu had at that time only three sanctuaries, including the Vedanthangal bird sanctuary.

The Government on Monday blamed the shortage of adequate manpower for the inaction against poachers of endangered species of wildlife and admitted it has to depend on States for the job. This is despite that CBI has been empowered to apprehend and prosecute wildlife offenders.
