JAMMU: Keeping in pace with the technology and modern scientific wildlife management tools, the department of Wildlife Protection has introduced latest cameras to be installed in different wildlife sanctuaries in Jammu in order to conserve and protect the wild animals in a scientific method.

The Department has recently procured IR as well as flash Camera Traps for studying animal presence, conducting research in different wildlife sanctuaries and conserve the reserves including Nandini, Ramnagar, Sudhmahadev, etc.

A grand procession of trained elephants will trail a rhino family in Jorhat all for the noble cause of herding the wayward trio back to the safety of Kaziranga National Park. The forest department has hit upon the plan to use kunkis (trained elephants) to chase the animals, which had strayed out of the national park three months ago and had been moving along the Brahmaputra under Jorhat forest division.

The inmates of the Delhi Zoological Park are to get exclusive customised enclosures. Most inmates of the zoo belonging to the same family have similar kind of enclosures. The Central Zoo Authority (CZA), along with the School of Planning and Architecture (SPA), are to hold a consultation to discuss and design customised habitats for animals, including birds, tigers and amphibians.

The Government on Monday blamed the shortage of adequate manpower for the inaction against poachers of endangered species of wildlife and admitted it has to depend on States for the job. This is despite that CBI has been empowered to apprehend and prosecute wildlife offenders.
