Procedure for obtaining water and sewerage connections in India: case study of five cities

Complex procedures for obtaining water and sewerage connections in urban areas are some of the impediments towards achieving universal access to the services. There are not many analytical studies undertaken to assess the procedures for obtaining new water and sewerage connections and the time taken for accessing the same. Higher weightage has been given to service delivery aspects such as coverage and financial progress rather than on the procedure to obtain connections. It is in this background that NIUA decided to undertake this research in five cities across Madhya Pradesh (Bhopal, Indore and Dewas) and Orissa (Bhubaneswar and Puri)
