Judgement of the Supreme Court of India in the matter of T. N. Godavarman Thirumulpad Vs Union of India & Others dated 14/09/2018 regarding non-forest activities including mining in forests under the garb of lease executed by the by the State of Chhattisgarh or permission granted by the State of Chhattisgarh in their favour. This case revolves around illegal iron ore mining activities of Anil Lunia in Bhainsa Kankar, District North Bastar Kanker, the State of Chhattisgarh.

Supreme Court finds that Anil Lunia had flagrantly violated the law and had carried out mining in the forest areas. It is also clear that the State Government has taken necessary steps in the matter The State has taken action not only to stop mining but also to initiate proceedings against the erring officials. Affidavit of the State shows that all mining activities in the forest areas have been stopped long time back. The authorities are free to auction the confiscated iron ore in accordance with law. Supreme Court Order says that it is not necessary to direct the CBI enquiry as prayed for in the applications. The applications are accordingly disposed of.
