Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Krishan Nand Rai Vs Government Polytechnic College, Deoria & Others dated 11/12/2018. This application was originally filed against grant of permission for felling of 57 tress by the Divisional Forest Officer in favour of Government Polytechnic College, Chariyaon Buzurg, Deoria, Uttar Pradesh on the ground that requisite conditions had not been imposed while permitting felling of the trees. The matter was disposed of on 26.10.2017 with a direction to the State Government may plant ten times the trees that have been felled in the same area and submit a compliance report. Accordingly, compliance report has been filed on 30.11.2018 by the State of Uttar Pradesh stating that 570 plus trees (ten times the number of trees felled) have been planted in July 2018.

NGT states that the trees have to be maintained by way of replacement of mortality with endemic species at least for a period of three years and directs that the tress planted will be duly maintained by the Government Polytechnic College, Deoria at least for three years which may be overseen by the Forest Department.
