Order of the Supreme Court of India in the matter of Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board Vs Tapesh Bhardwaj & Others dated 27/09/2019 regarding dumping of municipal solid wastes on the Yamuna riverbed, Mathura Cantonment, Uttar Pradesh. The National Green Tribunal (NGT) on April 2017 had imposed an environmental compensation of Rs. 5 lakhs on Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) and Rs. 10 lakhs on Mathura Cantonment Board "for causing continuous air, water, ground water pollution and causing injury to the public health and environment." Further, directions were issued for constructing a boundary wall between the dumping site and the river to ensure that under no circumstances the MSW be able to enter directly or indirectly into the flood plain of the river or in Yamuna, development of a green belt among other directions.

In the order of September 27, 2019 the apex court ordered that an official from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) inspect the spot and submit a report on whether the boundary wall has been constructed between the river and the trenching site and report on the development of the green belt, the present position of the river and suggestions for cleaning Yamuna. The report has to be submitted within six weeks.
