Report by the District Magistrate, Koraput, Odisha in Original Application No - 148/19 filed by Basanta Patra Vs State of Odisha & Others. The matter related to preservation of Jagannath Sagar, Jeypore, Odisha.

The report stated that for de-weeding of Jagannath Sagar, the district administration has agreed to hire the amphibian weed harvester and asked the Chief Executive, Chilika Development Authority, Bhubaneswar and requested to depute their technical team so that they will visit the Jagannath Sagar, Jeypore and submit a full proof of feasibility report for de-weeding it from the root.

However, the Chief Executive, Chilika Development Authority, Bhubaneswar has said that due to lack of sufficient technical staff, it was not possible to send the technical team to Jeypore. Hence, they requested that the dimension of Jagannath Sagar, alongwith area covered by weeds be intimated to them, so that they can prepare the estimate. The Executive Officer, Jeypore Municipality would be visiting the Jagannath Sagar - to submit the exact dimension of Jagannath Sagar alongwith area covered by weeds so as to transmit the same to Chilika Development Authority for taking further action at their level.

For rejuvenation of Jagannath Sagar Lake, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, Koraput at Sunabeda sanctioned an amount of Rs. 100 lakhs under CSR fund for the year 2020-21. The Executive Engineer, Public Health Division, Koraput has identified the exact location for installation of waste water treatment plants and prepared the plan and estimate to the tune of Rs. 4241.43 lakhs which is under process.

With respect to eviction of encroachers, the Tahsildar, Jeypore has initiated 54 cases under Orissa Prevention of Land Encroachment Act, 1972 (OPLE Act) against unauthorised encroachers. The encroachers had occupied lands at the peripheral area of Jagannath Sagar.
