Report filed by the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board in the matter of E. S. Senthilvel Vs The Greater Chennai Corporation & Others dated 11/02/2022. The matter related to the operation of bio composting facility in Puliyur village, Greater Chennai, Tamil Nadu. An application was filed in the NGT alleging that the bio composting facility is violating the Municipal Solid Waste (Management & Handling) Rules, 2016.

The Greater Chennai Corporation, Teynampet Zone, Mylapore, Triplicane, Puliyur, Egmore, Nungambakkam, T-Nagar taluk of Chennai district was issued with authorization under Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016 for operating the waste processing/recycling/treatment/disposal facilities with validity upto, March 31, 2020. The location at Puliyur village has been issued authorization for 0.52 tones for operating bio composting facility.

The materials brought to the materials recovery facility was stored in an open area and totally drenched in the rin leading to foul smell and mosquito breeding.
