Order of the National Green Tribunal regarding bio-medical waste management in Madhya Pradesh, 12/07/2022

  • 12/07/2022

Order of the National Green Tribunal (Central Zone Bench, Bhopal) in the matter of Dharmaendra Gayakwad & Others Vs MP IDC Ltd. & Others dated 12/07/2022.

A joint committee report found a huge gap among quantity of generation, quantity of collection and the quantity of waste disposal including variations with the figures uploaded on the website by the Madhya Pradesh Pollution Control Board. Also, the existing facilities were working below capacity (on average about 30 % of capacity).

Madhya Pradesh State Environment Impact Assessment Authority informed the NGT that there was a significant gap between the number of beds registered with the Madhya Pradesh Pollution Control Board (MPPCB) and Common Biomedical Waste Treatment Facility (CBWTF) and thus a fresh gap analysis needed to be conducted by the MPPCB, so that further required action could be initiated and taken by the SEIAA.

The NGT (Central Zone Bench, Bhopal) directed MPPCB to file a detailed report before July 25, 2022.
