Joint inspection report of river bed mining lease at village Katari Sunaudha, tehsil Bilhaur, district Kanpur Nagar, Uttar Pradesh.

The applicant (Aman Chaudhary) has said that an unauthorised bridge has been constructed in the middle of river Ganga due to which the river has got divided into two streams which can prove dangerous to the nearby villages.

The committee carried out a survey of mining located at village Katari Sunaudha, tehsil Bilhaur, district Kanpur Nagar. The village is situated near river Ganga which is approximately 800 meters away from the mining area. One temporary waterway is found developed for transporting vehicles in the mining area.

During joint inspection, it was found that mining activities are carried out only in the jurisdiction of Kanpur Nagar at the right bank of river Ganga. The project proponent have failed to submit monitoring reports of ambient air quality; water and water; flora and fauna; six monthly compliance reports; annual environmental statement and detailed replenishment study report to State Environment Impact Assessment Authority, Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board and district administration. During the inspection approach road was found at the mining lease site in the main steam area of river Ganga, which obstructed the flow of the river.

The project proponent has not taken any significant measures for environmental safeguard and also not made any efforts for conducting activities under CSR, the report informed the NGT.
