  • 22/09/2022

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Panna Lal Vs State of Uttar Pradesh & Others dated 22/09/2022.

Chande Baba Talab in village Garhi-Chunoti, Lucknow is facing the threat of encroachment and the lake is seeing a reduction in its water level. During winter, the lake attracts thousands of migratory birds but the number is getting increasingly reduced read the petition filed by Utkarsh Singh Chauhan, advocate before the NGT.

According to the applicant, Chande Baba Talab is spread over 100 acres and is the biggest lake of Lucknow city. Further, water source of this lake is one storm water drain drain named Nagwa Nala. Freshwater of said drain, which joins River Sai, is wasted. There is a need to join the storm water drain to the Chande Baba Lake in order to improve its water level.

Accordingly, the court directed a Joint Committee to verify the actual position by undertaking visits to the sites and then submitting a report.
