The Ottappalam Municipality has prepared an action plan and project report for the removal of legacy waste from the Panamanna trenching ground. The project report has been approved by the Municipal Council, August 6, 2021 and work is going on.

For improving the storage and sorting facility Material Collection Facility (MCF) and Resource Recovery Facilities (RRF) has been decided to be installed. Community composting (Thumboormoozhi model) has been installed in two places and is functioning.

The Ottappalam Municipality has set up a bio composting plant with a processing capacity of one tonne per day for bio-waste treatment.

The Municipality has formulated a new project in the finance year plan 2022-23 for removing the balance legacy waste from the Panamanna trenching ground. In the first phase 980 tonnes were already removed. The balance of about 2000 tonnes will removed. For the same a detailed project for 2.5 crore is under the final stage and it is expected to complete the project by June 31, 2023 and there will not be any legacy waste after that.
