Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Ram Kripal Gautam Vs State of Uttarakhand dated 12/01/2023. It is said that sewer chambers are located at Triveni Ghat of river Ganga at Rishikesh which sometimes due to overflow results in spreading pollutants across the area polluting Ganga. Such pollutants also cause foul smell and create unhygienic conditions thereby causing health hazards to local people.

The NGT directed the Uttarakhand Pollution Control Board, the District Magistrate, Dehradun and Assistant Engineer, Garhwal Jal Sansthan, Ganga Pollution Control (Unit), Rishikesh to look into the matter and if finds the complaint to be correct, to take appropriate remedial and preventive action in accordance with law within one month. The District Magistrate, Dehradun shall act as nodal agency in the matter.
