Child labourers in Sylhet city, including those working in risky jobs, have very limited support services, according to the child rights workers in the region.

According to the UNICEF, more than 70,000 child labourers worked in and around the Sylhet city in 2006, of which around 50,000 lived in the city slums.

The number, however, had risen by now as the migration of the rural poor to the city continued, observed Saiful Alam, assistant coordinator of Sylhet activities of a government programme giving basic education to poor working children.
