LUCKNOW: Every second Indian undergoing treatment for tuberculosis comes from Uttar Pradesh. Considering that 17% of tuberculosis (TB) patients eventually become resistant to basic anti-TB treatment, the risk of multi drug resistant TB (MDR TB) looms large over the state. However, this was probably not enough to put health authorities into action mode, as it took more than two years for the state government to gear up to DOTS plus - the treatment for MDR TB.
