Narmada Bachao Andolan ( NBA) has demanded CBI inquiry into the purchase of power from Maheshwar Hydro- electric project, which is now Rs 10 per unit and it has become unviable. If Madhya Pradesh does not withdraw, NBA will knock the doors of a court. NBAs Alok Agrawal said, " As per Tariff Order of the MPERC for the year 2011- 2012, the cost of power in MP is Rs. 2.44 per unit. Cost of power from the two upcoming private power projects in Madhya Pradesh - Essar Power and Torrent- is Rs. 2.45 per unit and Rs. 3.31 per unit respectively.

New Delhi Smelling a scam in the bidding process for the National Solar Mission, Sunita Narain-led Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) on Wednesday said that front companies floated by Lanco Infratech had grabbed not less than nine projects of 235 mw under the mission. This is about 40 % of the projects totalling 620 mw auctioned by the government during the first batch of the first phase of the solar mission.

Members of the Tamil Nadu Traders Federation would stage a demonstration in the city on February 2 against the Food Safety and Standards Act. A decision to this effect was taken at an urgent consultative meeting of office bearers of the federation held here on Sunday, according to Ve.Govindarajalu, state general secretary of the federation.
