AHMEDABAD: A team of US researchers looking to study the impact of traffic on society decided to take the road less travelled. Rather than going for usual parameters such as pollution, fumes emitted or how many people travel per car, they decided to take three streets with high, moderate and low traffic.

NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has succeeded in getting the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh agree to the state’s high-end infrastructure dreams of having a high-speed rail corridor and railway coach factory. The Jatiya Sangsad on Wednesday passed the Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority Bill seeking to modernise the transport system of Dhaka city and the adjoining districts that have been experiencing severe traffic congestion for quite a while.

Silchar, Feb. 7: The proposal of the Congress-ruled Mizoram government to build a 5km mono rail network across the hill capital town of Aizawl to ease traffic has made considerable headway. The state government has now asked the RITES, Rail India Technical & Economic Services Limited, an engineering and consultancy subsidiary of the Indian Railways, with its headquarters in Lucknow, to prepare a technical as well as economic feasibility report of this mono rail system in Aizawl town.

A-I to be allowed to raise Rs 7,400 cr. A Group of Ministers today recommended allowing airlines to import jet fuel directly, a move that would help them cut fuel costs by up to 20 per cent. The GoM also approved a plan to recast Air India’s debt of Rs 22,000 crore, and to allow the ailing national carrier to raise Rs 7,400 crore through government-guaranteed bonds or other means.

Feasibility study for the new suburban Virar- Vasai Road- Diva- Panvel line would soon begin in about a months time. Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation ( MRVC) would be carrying out the work under phase three of Mumbai Urban Transport Project ( MUTP). " The feasibility study would be in two parts - practical and financial. Study will also be conducted on the fast corridor on harbour line project. Both these projects collectively are estimated to cost about Rs 20,000 crores," said a MRVC official on condition of anonymity.

A cabinet meeting, chaired by prime minister Sheikhy Hasina, on Monday approved in principle a proposal for the creation of a special organization for operating Bus Rapid Transit between Shahjalal International Airport and Gazipur to curb the capital city’s traffic congestion.

The Roads Division of the Communications Ministry placed the proposal at the weekly cabinet meeting, cabinet secretary Muhammad Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan told reporters later.
