While Chiman Singh of Tahliwala Bodla village has been awarded paise 53, Shanti Devi, wife of Kottu Ram, has been given Rs 10. 67.

The Department for International Development of the United Kingdom and the United Nations World Food Programme will provide much-needed support for 150,000 people affected by recent floods and water-logging in Satkhira.

The donation of £440,000 ($679,000) will support displaced women, men and children by providing a one-off cash grant of Tk 1,500 to each affected household, designed to cover food needs for one month.

The cash can be used to buy essential foods and other items, and in the process stimulate local markets, said a WFP press release on Monday.

ISLAMABAD, Jan 16: The National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) has disbursed Rs6.2 million among 321,336 flood victims under the second phase of `Watan Card` project. Nadra deputy chairman Tariq Malik said in a statement on Monday that Rs40,000 in two installments had been provided to each of the households identified by provinces under the second phase of the Citizens Damage Compensation Programme (CDCP). About 1.1 million households will be benefited through the Watan cards, he said.

The Cabinet has decided to sanction Rs.5 crore for providing relief to families who lost the next of kin and property in the deluge, according to a statement issued by Transport Minister V.S. Sivakumar here on Wednesday .

After getting clearance from the Election Commission , the administrations of Ferozepur and Fazilka are all set to distribute Rs 53.5 crore as flood relief funds to affected families. Out of this Rs 33 crore is for Fazilka and Rs 20.5 crore for Ferozepur. The EC had earlier raised objections over the distribution of these funds. Though it will be done sans political leaders, they already planning to take the mileage in door-to-door campaign, revealed party sources.

The Union Government sanctioned Rs 921.30 crore towards assistance for the Odisha floods that wrought havoc in 21 districts of the State during September and October even as CM Naveen Patnaik 'smelt a rat' from the point of timing of the announcement. Though the Centre has provided the highest-ever amount as flood assistance, Patnaik said, "It will certainly help in the reconstruction activities in the flood-affected areas which the State Government has already began." However, he was critical over the timing of release of the funds, stating, "There is a smell of panchayat elections."
