The MPI reflects both the incidence or headcount ratio (H) of poverty – the proportion of the population that is multidimensionally poor – and the average intensity (A) of their poverty – the average proportion of indicators in which poor people are deprived.

As the current financial year is coming to an end, the Almora district administration has stressed on the need to complete all the pending developmental projects in time with proper utilisation of the allotted funds for them. The Central Railway has finally formulated a public toilet policy and invited proposals for comprehensive toilet services at every railway station across the city. The policy lays down specific guidelines, including hiring uniformed staff, cleanliness norms and even the toiletries to be used inside. All stations in the Mumbai division have been clubbed as clusters — each having a maximum of seven to eight stations under it — and the toilet location specified for every platform, to enable proper monitoring and follow-ups.

The Government of India (GoI) initiated its national flag ship programme on sanitation, the Total Sanitation Campaign (TSC) in 1999. The TSC is a restructured version of the Central Rural Sanitation Programme (CRSP). In Rajasthan, the TSC was initially launched in 4 districts in 1999 and scaled up in all the 32 districts in 2004-05. Although significant progress has been made in terms of individual household toilet coverage in the state, usage by the population is still low at 12.9% (DLHS 2007-08).
