The present yard poses a threat to residents of Nagercoil Municipality

It is high time the district administration explored ways to ensure safe and scientific disposal of garbage collected from the Nagercoil municipal limit and other extension areas either in the existing compost yard at Valampurai Vilai, situated in the heart of the town or in some other places.

The extensively drug resistant tuberculosis (XXDR-TB) strain in 11 patients in the city has inadvertently highlighted the deplorable condition of hospitals treating the disease, giving them a new lease of life. The state government with help from the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) has decided to pump in Rs80 lakh as initial assistance for upkeep and modernisation of these hospitals.

All the dumping sites in Gurgaon will be videographed to ensure timely lifting and disposal of garbage from the city. The Haryana Urban Development Authority has directed all executive engineers to give daily progress report by doing videography of each dumping site to ensure cleanliness of the city, an official spokesman said here today.

The engineers have been asked to give details of dumping sites in each sector, list of heavy machines deployed, their contact number and number of labourers deployed in each sector, he said.
